Have the Life You Want Now
Oct 22, 2013
Today, I would like to welcome our guest blogger Shurlana Dewdass from SASYOGA!
What's really holding you back?
I came across an audio conversation recently where the life coaches were both speaking about something that struck me. They admitted that on any path to health, wellness and success, you must invest in your personal development. For some cynics this might have been simply an attempt at selling themselves but when I really sank into the statement I realized the truth of it, cynicism aside and reality inserted. There is no healthy body without first working out why you over eat, can't choose the right foods for your body type or can’t figure out what your real needs are. Maybe your metabolism is sluggish or maybe your chakras aren’t so aligned. I’m touching on a lot here today but I hope you get my drift.
Everything is connected. Wake up! You aren't losing weight for a number of reasons. It's not that your body just can't (for a few of us maybe, but really?). This doesn't have to be your reality. Therefore, what is? I think that on the path of wellness everything is truly connected and without self-realization and revolution there can be no sustainable conscious health.
This then led me to realize that teaching yoga is great and challenging and new and fresh in each moment for me, but what is really enveloping is the true me and there is no way to measure or contextualize this. That's when it struck me. The key lies in being courageous for it takes courage to overcome all of the fears in each moment. This statement is loaded. To be in that space of wholeness and gratitude is creating your life. I had been living away from home for almost seven years and returned home to a culture shock, to say the least. It certainly hasn't been easy and I think that what I've been asked to reveal by the universe is my courage. In the same capacity as yoga reveals a healthy body to me, it encourages me to desire a healthy mind space. Fear does not belong there. To me it’s what I believe is one of the greatest qualities we can cultivate on any self realization journey or personal development - the courage to self actualize, to self realize, to self love.

I've been thinking a lot about this statement and how many of us hide those stories of personal development that created the spark to seek the courage to act and be, when in fact that's the most important story we can tell. In my own life, I realized the universe was and is prompting me to be courageous, but I've often taken this word for granted and now I realize that courage isn't in the great big acts we think we do but in the small acts.
“Don't look for big things, just do small things with great love....The smaller the thing, the greater must be our love.” ~ Mother Theresa
Here are some things I learnt:
It takes courage to listen.
It takes courage to wake up earlier for quiet time, exercise and reflection.
It takes courage to rally through your thoughts, the negative mind and this life, all the things that hold us back from our highest potential.
It takes courage to forgive someone for thinking the worst of you.
It then takes courage to forgive yourself for allowing that thought to somehow seep into your subconscious mind and be your reality.
It takes courage to remember you are important, and if you have a family, you can't give them your best if your not being your best.
Courage gives us faith in our Divine support and our own internal support system.
Courage pulls us square to our own inner demons so that we can have that aha moment of clarity.
Courage is confidence.
Courage is clarity.
Courage is what is required to not have that perfect body, but to be consistent and surrender to the work.
That my friends is where the real fire lies, the real spark that sets you aflame for expansion and abundance - the surrender to yourself that takes courage. So stop playing small, be courageous, face the darkness and bring it to light.
Knowing this; before there was the light there is some space in there, some force, some energy that propels us to love ourselves, forgive ourselves and give ourselves the grace to go on. So what’s holding you back from that perfect body or life? Think about it. I think to answer this, honestly, is courage and to surrender to the answer is to seek Divine Counsel to live your fullest, healthiest life now!
