Tea is not only for the British or hippies. This drink has been and is still being enjoyed by many people around the world, kids and adults alike. This is where the controversy begins; most experts have condoned the act of giving Herbal Tea to Kids. They say it affects the absorption of iron and calcium, which can delay a child’s milestone growth. Although there may be some truth to this associated with your typical conventional brand of black tea, it’s not all doom and gloom though. There are experts who have shown the benefit for kids who drink herbal tea, with a condition that it is taken in moderation. This means that there are some health benefits of Herbal Tea for Children. For now let’s focus on these benefits.

It helps deal with anxiety in Kids
In modern times, studies have shown that kids are experiencing anxiety at younger ages. This anxiety can be caused by school, friends or even separation. A cup of herbal tea will help solve this problem and calm their nervous system. The tea can even be prepared in the evening, so that the parent and child can enjoy it together.
It helps with coughs
This is something that I myself have experienced. As a kid my mom would always prepare a nice cup of herbal tea for me when I’d have a cough that is accompanied by a sore throat. Herbal tea can help with those persistent coughs that bother the children. A nice cup of warm herbal tea in the evening can help suppress the cough and give the child a comfortable time sleeping at night.
It helps with fevers
Herbal tea is one of the best things a child can get when having a fever. This is because it helps in decreasing the chills by stimulating the body and speeding up circulation. This provides the body with heat. Herbal tea can help the body in the perspiration process by promoting sweating. It does this by warming up the body which opens up the pores and helps it cool down. Plus herbal tea will keep the child hydrated, which is an important thing to do when they have a fever.
It helps with nausea
A kid is usually very uncomfortable when they have nausea. Herbal tea can help them feel better. Apart from that it can help soothe the digestive tract and reduce nausea, vomiting or an upset stomach. In fact it’s best when your kid is having nausea or vomiting because it gives them that much needed dehydration.
It may be beneficial to the enamel
Herbal tea in part is put in place because it provides benefits to the child if it is not mixed in with sugar. Enamel is the outer coating of the baby and adult teeth. Herbal tea without sugar can help strengthen the enamel because it contains fluoride that mineralizes and hardens the outer layer of the tooth.
There are some important things people need to know when preparing herbal tea for children. First, the type of herb to choose is important. Do your research or ask a qualified herbalist or holistic practitioner on good herbal tea recommendations for children. Don’t make their tea as strong as most children prefer weaker herbal tea. In addition, serve the herbal tea lukewarm or room temperature. Don’t give them hot herbal tea - they might not like that. Sweetening the herbal tea is optional, but adding a little honey or lemon may encourage a child to drink the tea.
