Lemon Lime Recovery Drink

sports nutrition May 30, 2012

After-training recovery foods and drinks can help athletes recover faster and get ready for the next training session or event. This whole food based recovery drink is much more affordable than commercial recovery drinks, and is very beneficial to help endurance athletes quickly replenish depleted glycogen stores, rehydrate and repair muscle tissue after strenuous activity. The optimal timing for consuming this recovery drink is no later than 15-30 minutes after training.

Ingredients:

4 large Medjool dates (pits removed)

2 cups purified water

1 tbsp plant-based protein powder (not from soy)

1 tbsp chia seeds

2 tbsp sprouted buckwheat (or substitute cooked)

1 tbsp lemon

1 tsp lime

1/2 tsp lemon or lime zest

1/2 tsp ground dulse flakes (or 1/4 tsp sea salt)

1 tsp maca

1 tsp greens powder (chlorella or spirulina)

Directions:

Blend all the ingredients together in a blender. Now get out there, so you can come back and recover! Enjoy!
