Let Nature do its Way - A Yoga Journey
Jul 06, 2015
Years ago, long before I became a mother, I accidentally discovered yoga, actually it found me, and it changed my life for the better. It helped me balance my inner self, and made me realize how our bodies truly are a miracle of God’s creation. My love for yoga was such that I never stopped exercising, neither during my pregnancy nor after childbirth, and this decision was one of the best ones I made in my life, for it helped both me and my children.
This is a guest post by Emma Lawson, a passionate writer and mother who loves to discuss parenting techniques. We hope that you find it enjoyable and informative.
When I got pregnant
I understand that there are many women who choose to do pregnancy yoga because they want to keep their good looks, and I must admit that I was happy knowing I would not lose my body shape after pregnancy and childbirth due to my healthy habit.
Nevertheless, my reasons went much deeper than that my body needed yoga to keep the deep connection to Nature and my spirit, and to keep my children healthy and happy too. The happier and healthier I was during pregnancy, my boys stayed happy and healthy in my womb as well. Exercise helped me prepare for childbirth, keeping my muscles flexible and my breathing steady, and I cannot stress enough how thankful I am for that.
After I’ve given birth
My first childbirth was not easy, but everything was forgotten when I first took my son in my arms and looked him in the eyes. He immediately stole my heart, just like his brother did a couple of years afterwards. They are my world and I love them immensely, and I want to keep them safe and healthy forever. When my firstborn was really young, just a few months old actually, I felt the need to go back to yoga, but was worried about how he would take it. However, knowing that mommy-and-me yoga could only help my boy stay healthy and help us both connect, I decided to give it a go and not once did I regret it!
How it changed all of us
I read about how good it is to start with a gentle massage and simple wriggling of legs and arms to release the tension. It all looked like a game to him and to me it seemed like we were having one of our ‘cuddling time’ moments. Later I would take him in my arms and do simple stretching exercises while holding him tightly wrapped in his baby sleeping bag either close to my heart or right in front of me so we could see each other. As my eldest grew, so did our exercises, and when his brother came along, we included him in, improvising along the way and having lots of fun.
To keep them under the sun as much as I possibly could, I would take them in the garden and do yoga on the grass so they could feel the air, the ground, and the sun better, and they grew up loving nature and fresh air just like their parents do.
Health comes in
The way of life we as a family have is best described as holistic: we eat a lot of raw and unprocessed food, especially vegetables, and instead of unhealthy sweets my boys enjoy apples and strawberries dipped in honey. We spend as much time as we can outside, playing barefoot in our garden, and drink juice of freshly squeezed fruits and herbal tea. We buy organic food from local farmers instead of processed one in the supermarkets, and I make our bread myself where I don’t use white flour and add different seeds and nuts to make it more delicious and healthy. My husband and I do whatever we can to make sure our boys grow healthy and strong.
Our way of life did not come overnight and it wasn’t easy to achieve, but we fought and are proud to say that we succeeded. Healthy lifestyle, healthy habits, and a lot of exercise keep us all happy and safe from bad thoughts and diseases. Through yoga, I feel connected to Nature and closer to the source of energy that we all drink from, but not many of us notice. Each morning my body stretches so that it could greet glorious sun and my soul is peaceful, for my children are with me and they feel everything I feel as well through our deep spiritual connection.
