Oxygenating Anti-Inflammatory Natural Sports Optimizer Drink
Jan 11, 2012
This fresh juice and veggie drink is my absolute favorite to sip before every race; 30 min to an hour before the race to be exact.
The beetroot (red beets) in this drink increase nitric oxide and oxygenation of the blood, thus increasing endurance, the apple is a valuable source of electrolytes and vitamin C, the carrot is rich in vitamin A and beta-carotene that supports immunity, the lime is very hydrating, alkalizing and reduces inflammation and the fresh ginger adds a powerful anti-inflammation zing that can reduce pre/post race muscle/joint/tendon pain and stiffness.
Overall, this drink is an excellent source high glycemic carbs (perfect for immediate energy) and antioxidants that will fight free-radical damage caused by the oxidative stress on the body, due to physical activity and sun exposure.
Ingredients:
2 organic red beets
1 organic apple
1 organic carrot
½ a lime (or lemon)
1 tablespoon fresh, grated ginger
Ice or water as needed (avoid diluting the juice too much)
Directions:
Combine all ingredients in a juicer and serve cold with ice. If you are using a blender, blend all ingredients with water and ice as needed, and use a fine strainer or almond bag to strain any unwanted pulp. Store in a stainless steal thermos water bottle (or glass) that will keep your juice cool. Sip it before, and even during your race.
